A 4″ scraper — a stiff wide blade for stripping flaking paint, old filler, wallpaper paste and adhesive residue before repainting.
Preparation decides how long the new paint lasts. Paint over loose or flaking material and it will lift with the old coat, whatever the quality of the paint.
Keep the blade edge square; a rounded scraper digs into the surface instead of lifting off it. Also useful for spreading filler on small repairs.
