A Xiao paint brush in the 1.5 inch width. One and a half inches suits window frames, glazing bars, narrow beading and the awkward edges a 2″ brush overruns.
Brush size is about control, not speed: a wide brush loads more paint but a narrow one gives you the edge. Most painters keep two or three widths and swap as the work changes.
Wash the brush out properly in the right solvent — water for emulsion, thinner for enamel — and it will keep its shape for years.
